Maintenance Notice: Cluster Node Software Upgrades

By | August 12, 2013

When: August 15th and 16th 2013
Purpose: Cluster Node Software Upgrades
Expected Impact & Downtime: None

Thank you for your continued business and partnership with Awesome Cloud Services! In order to continue delivering the best possible service, our engineering teams will be performing cluster node software upgrades throughout the day on August 15th and 16th. The upgrades will include routine maintenance patching in addition to installing upgraded services to facilitate our upcoming control panel and user portal launch. This is a planned event and we expect no interruptions in service during this window.

Upgrades will only be performed on cluster hypervisor (server) nodes. No upgrades or changes to any networking, routing or security devices are included during this window.

Maintenance FAQ

  1. Is there anything I need to do to prepare?
Users should follow normal operating procedure including any backup best practices. Critical data should always be backed up routinely.
  2. What does the upgrade involve?
We will be patching the cluster nodes with Windows updates, any required vendor specific upgrades and the latest version of System Center 2012’s Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) integration. The SCVMM upgrades are necessary to extend functionality in order to implement the upcoming control panel and user portal system.
  3. Where there be any downtime?
We do not anticipate any downtime. Our systems are designed with redundancy and additional capacity to mitigate failures and provide a non-disruptive experience during most maintenance windows. The Microsoft Hyper-V platform allows us to perform ‘live migrations’ of cloud servers from node to node without user interruption. The additional capacity within cluster environment provides us with a means to migrate customer workloads, upgrade a node, and then continue until all nodes within the cluster are upgraded. Cloud servers are typically only live migrated 1-2 times during any given maintenance window.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact us and we’ll be happy to address them. All existing partners will receive an email reiterating the above notice.
